BART Explains Drug Sniffing Dogs
by Lucifer 12/14/01

Recent news reports have stated that pot sniffing dogs will be plaguing marijuana smokers on BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) here on the San Francisco Bay Area rails.

Voicing concerns of medical marijuana users who contacted LAMPS, I spoke with Lt. Howard of the BART police who assured me that medical marijuana patients need not worry about conflict as long as we can present valid medical marijuana patient I.D.cards and/or a copy of a current physician’s recommendation for cannabis use.

He also explained that the dogs would only be around this week and were only around as a “familiarization” because when BART is eventually connected to the San Francisco airport, they will have to be working with customs and the airport authorities more closely. He stated there have been other recent orientation excercises too so that BART police will be more prepared to follow new security protocols in the future. Lt. Howard and his office were very helpful and eager for prop 215 patients to know that they are secure on BART.
